Senegal and CNTIC Sign Agreements for Two 50 MW Solar Plants
Senegal’s national utility Senelec has signed agreements with the China National Technical Import and Export Corporation (CNTIC) for the development of two landmark solar power plants. The contracts, signed on July 28, 2025, in Shenzhen, cover the construction of two photovoltaic facilities of 50 MWp each, each integrated with a 30 MW / 90 MWh battery storage system.
The projects will be fully financed and executed by CNTIC and are designed to strengthen Senegal’s electricity supply while advancing the country’s national electrification strategy. Once completed, the solar plants will expand access to clean, reliable, and affordable energy for nearly 2,000 villages, helping to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and improve grid stability.
The initiative forms part of Senegal’s long-term strategy to achieve energy sovereignty and promote sustainable development. It was concluded during Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko’s visit to China, where several agreements were signed to reinforce bilateral cooperation.
“These projects will ensure greater access to electricity, enhance energy security, and align with Senegal’s climate and sustainability goals,” a Senelec representative said at the signing ceremony.
