Sri Lanka Parliament approves resolution on Domestic Debt Optimization

July 01, Colombo: The Resolution for the implementation of the Domestic Debt Optimization to restore sovereign debt sustainability, was passed by a majority vote in Parliament with amendments today (01).
The DDO resolution was passed in Parliament with a majority of 60 votes, with 122 votes in favor and 62 votes against following a 10-hour debate.
The parliament in a special sitting convened Saturday debated the Resolution for the implementation of the Domestic Debt Optimization to restore sovereign debt sustainability from 09.30 a.m. until 07.30 p.m.
On request of the Prime Minister, the Parliament convened today at 9.30 am as per the Gazette Notification Extraordinary issued by the Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardana, as per Standing Order 16 of the Parliament.
The Resolution for the implementation of the government’s DDO strategy was approved by the Committee on Public Finance by a majority at the Committee meeting held Friday (June 30) subject to certain amendments.
