Congo-Brazzaville: Eni sells part of its oil asset portfolio to Perenco for $300 million

(Ecofin Agency) – The energy company Eni is deploying a plan to optimize its investments to honor its climate commitments. Some of the oil assets it operates are nevertheless inadequate with its strategy.

The Italian energy group Eni initialed Tuesday, June 27 with the French company Perenco, an agreement for the sale of some of the oil interests it holds in the Republic of Congo. The deal is valued at 300 million USD, part of which payable immediately and the other subject to  “usual adjustments”  which have not been specified. The same is true for the perimeters covered by the operation and deemed “non-essential to the strategy”  implemented by Eni in Congo.

In the country, the Italian company is increasingly focusing its operations on energy transition, in accordance with the climate commitments it has made. Thus, Eni concentrates its investments in the monetization of the gas potential available in Congo, in particular that of the Marine XII block planned to provide a production of liquefied natural gas (LNG) of approximately 4.5 billion cubic meters each year.

At the same time, Eni is actively working to  “promote the energy transition in Congo”  through, among other things, the development of initiatives for the  “production of agricultural raw materials intended for biorefining and not competing with the food supply chain”. .

For more than 5 decades, Eni has been the largest energy supplier in the Republic of Congo with a contribution of around 70% to the electricity production in the country.
